What we think:

Yamaha's authentic sound, natural touch and an absolute joy to play
Digital piano with GH keyboard, and 3-level AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling voices. Perfect for beginning students and experienced players alike, the ARIUS YDP-161 provides true piano sound and feel. The GH keyboard and 3-level AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling voices deliver remarkably authentic sound and natural expressiveness, making it a true joy to play, both in practice and in performance. Moreover, the damper pedal includes a half-damper effect, giving you nuanced expressive control over the sustained sound. Dual voice capability lets you play two different instrument sounds at the same time, while a 2-track song recorder allows you to capture your original musical ideas and performances

  • 3-level Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) Dynamic Stereo Sampling
  • New acoustic system offers clearer sound with more presence.
  • 128- Polyphonic - Rich expressive power, free from sound cutoff even when the sustain pedal is used to layer notes.
  • 2 Track Recording - Record your performances to listen to yourself play. Convenient for piano lessons.

A piano sound sampling taken from one Yamaha Full Concert Grand Piano CFIIIS. AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling
The piano sound is a sampling from the Yamaha Full Concert Grand Piano CFIIIS, which has won high plaudits at the world's most famous concert halls and music competitions. The very top piano was selected, and an experienced tuner adjusted it to top condition. Yamaha emphasizes the natural sounds that should emanate from pianos. Sampling is carefully performed over a long period, from the sound start until fadeout, to reproduce a natural sound and attenuation that feels nothing like an electronic piano. In addition, they also focus on the change in timbre due to the strength or weakness of the key strike that is so characteristic of pianos. Sound sampling covered more than 10 stages of key strike strength for each keyboard. Uses AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling, sounds that most closely express the piano characteristics, obtained through rigorous recording. The Yamaha development team spent a lot of time together with pianists in thorough pursuit of the optimum touch and timbre combination, resulting in achievement of natural sound changes that sound like a person is actually playing a grand piano, no matter how the keyboard is played.

New acoustic system reproduces clearer, more voluminous sound
Uses a new amp. The Tone Escape outlet for sound coming from the back of the keyboard has been widened. The piano sound has become clearer and volume feel has increased.

Ample expression without unnatural sound cut-off even when pedals overlay the sound Maximum Simultaneous Tones 128
Maximum simultaneous tones are an ample 128 tones. Enables enjoyment of rich sounds. Based on Yamaha's own technology, there is no unnatural sound cut-off even when the pedal is pressed and sounds overlaid, so that a performance with full presence can be achieved, no matter what song is played.

Half-pedal response that widens the range of expression
Yamaha also focuses on the expressive power of pedaling. Three stable pedals are mounted, including the damper, the soft pedal, and sostenuto. The damper pedal offers a half-pedal response. The damper can handle micro-adjustments of its strength, depending on how hard the pedal is pressed.

In addition to piano, many other rich sounds are mounted
Yamaha also focuses on the expressive power of pedaling. Three stable pedals are mounted, including the damper, the soft pedal, and sostenuto. The damper pedal offers a half-pedal response. The damper can handle micro-adjustments of its strength, depending on how hard the pedal is pressed.

Natural playing feel and stability based on Yamaha piano-making know-how Grade Hammer (GH) Keyboard
The piano maker that is Yamaha has made use of its grand piano-making know-how to achieve a keyboard that offers a natural playing feel even on an electronic piano. Achieves slight differences in touch, with the low sound regions of the grand piano being heavy to the touch, while the high sound regions become steadily lighter. With stability and endurance in response to any kind of performance, it offers the security and quality expected of Yamaha keyboards.

With 50 famous piano songs built in, and a music book also included in package.
Records 50 deeply familiar piano songs, and includes a music book in the package. Enjoy it as background music, or use it in lessons by adjusting to a slower tempo, or erasing one hand in the music to facilitate practice on that hand.
Record your own performances for checks. Convenient for piano lessons 2-track/1-song recording
Simple operation enables recording of playing performance. Since it can handle 2-track recording, it can record model performances, or record performances on one-hand at a time, letting you enjoy piano duets all by yourself. Built-in memory can save one song at a time.

Volume control allows micro adjustment when practicing with low volume levels
The Yamaha volume control knob allows for particularly detailed adjustment at low volume levels. When practicing at home where playing at high volume may not be possible, you can set the optimum sound volume. Naturally, the sound volume can be raised to enjoy impressive piano performance.

Simple design that is never boring
The Arius Series concept Simple & Basic is also expressed in its design. A life with piano unselfconsciously becomes the daily norm.

Two color variations selectable to match the interior design.
Available colors are the subdued New Dark Rosewood color tone and the brightly cheerful Northern European Light Cherry color tone. Enables choice suited to the emplacement location.
