Student Trumpets: There is a wide range of good student trumpets on the market. These start with the Elkhart 100 series at £120.

They offer a robust construction, ideal for complete beginners and popular with schools. Particularly good (if a little more pricey) are the Yamaha Instruments. We recommend the YTR2330 which are light and easy to play, and offer the great sound and intonation to support progression.

Intermediate Trumpets: At intermediate level the Yamaha 4335GII stands on its own as the best choice and remarkable value for money. This model has a gold brass bell delivering a warmer tone and has a powerful sound.

Top Level Trumpets: Bach Stradivarius has traditionally dominated this market, with the 180ML 37 being the most popular. However the Yamaha Xeno trumpets offer a real alternative and are becoming more and more popular (and nearly £200 cheaper!) If you prefer to play Jazz, the Yamaha 8310Z model (designed by Bobby Shew) features a unique ‘stepped bore’ giving a great sound with ease of playing.
