Yamaha Student Woodwind… What does this really mean?
STUDENT /ˈstjuːd(ə)nt/ Denoting someone who is studying in order to enter a particular profession. Or someone who takes an interest in a particular subject.
YAMAHA /’ jæ.m:ə(h)ɑ/ No definition can be found. Have you spelt this word correctly?
You see, there is nothing in the definition of the word ‘student’ (or Yamaha) that says “just starting out” or, ‘only for novice musicians’. It doesn’t even say ‘person who spends most time horizontal, and doesn’t help around the house.’
Yamaha student woodwind, is expertly designed and manufactured for all ages and ability of musician.
In this article, I will introduce you to some of the best value for money instruments on the market. The Yamaha Clarinet, Flute, Alto Saxophone and Tenor Saxophone.
The Yamaha YFL212 Flute is one of the most popular models we sell. If you used every entry level Yamaha Flute ever made, they would stretch to Mars, Jupiter… and all of the other planets Holst wrote about!
Yamaha’s 200 series flutes have been a benchmark in student flutes for a long time and, although it is hard to believe they can get any better, the new and improved YFL212 is here! The latest model from Yamaha promises improved feel and playability as well as a distinctive new look. The manufacturing process of the instrument has been completely redesigned and redeveloped to bring you possibly the best student flute on the market. In my opinion, you can omit the word “possibly” from that previous sentence!
Drawing inspiration from traditional European style flutes, the YFL212 now features pointed key arms on non-fingered keys (often found on professional level instruments.) This provides the player with more stability for improved posture. Furthermore, there are unique screw resistance inserts that will prevent gradual loosening of the screws and the positioning has been changed for easier access. The YFL212 has a very smooth and easy response throughout its entire range and will not let you down.
The CY headjoint featured on Yamaha student flutes is recognised as one of the best for beginners. This is thanks to its distinctive design that will guide you towards making a beautiful tone in a short space of time. It features a double flare taper and an embouchure hole undercut design that delivers a rich, resonant and warm tone that will make you want to play again and again.
The new YCL255 clarinets are the perfect start for young, and old, clarinet students.
The Yamaha YCL255S Bb Clarinet is a flagship student model that will take the aspiring clarinetist well into their grades.
The body of the instrument is made from ABS resin. As well as this sturdy base this model features nickel silver keys, a new adjustable thumb-rest and improved strap ring. All of these features working together result in a superb sound production with accurate intonation and immediate response. This really helps students to produce a round, full sound.
The new adjustable thumb-rest accommodates different sized hands helping the player develop proper playing technique. The ABS resin body can withstand changes in temperature and excessive levels of moisture. On top of this firmer screws and a silver soldered ring gives this new clarinet excellent durability.
Budding Artie’s & Acker’s, (if under the age of 40 please consult parents/grandparents!) can flourish and thrive for many years to come!

The YAS-280 Alto Saxophone offers a perfect start in performance. It is designed with the beginner and improver in mind. Relatively light-weight and ergonomically shaped, it is easy to hold and to play.
The intonation is perfect, as you would expect from Yamaha, and it is easy to get a great sound. The Yamaha design – with a more stable neck receiver and a new low B-C# connection for better adjustment – offers instrumentalists optimum support. This greatly assists both learning, progress and creativity.
Normans Musical Instruments provide these great Alto Saxophones with a high-quality zip-up durable case which features a large external accessory pocket, polishing cloth and cork grease accessory pack, plus the outstanding Yamaha 4C mouthpiece, ligature, mouthpiece cap and reed.
It would be very easy for me to simply copy the Alto Sax info above. The design, build quality, sound production and finish are as professional on the YTS280 Tenor as the YAS280 Alto.
Yep… Yamaha Student Woodwind is that easy!
