The piccolo is a woodwind instrument; it is a reedless instrument and sound is created by blowing across the mouthpiece. This instrument was developed in the 18th century and piccolo means "small" in Italian.

The flute is a beautiful sounding instrument that is a woodwind instrument. My most woodwind instruments include reeds but the flute is different. It is known as a reedless wind instrument as it produces its sound when you blow across the opening and then the flow of air creates the sound.
