Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova Piano

In a grand piano, the resonance captures and cloaks the listeners in a shroud of rich reverberation which portrays the emotion of the pianist’s performance. Understandably, this is extremely hard to mimic in a digital piano, however the experts at Yamaha have utilized their years of experience in manufacturing both grand pianos and digital pianos to mirror the beauty of a grand within the body of a digital piano; and they have done so successfully.

The Clavinova collection from Yamaha have long been held in high esteem for the sound quality and overall feel when playing such a beautiful instrument; however the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova is a step ahead of the rest.

We asked our piano expert, Jack, what he thinks of the CLP675 and here’s what he said…

Jack thinks:‘The new Yamaha CLP675 is one of their most significant pianos, and shows you how far the digital revolution has come in the last few years. It features sample sounds from a Yamaha CFX and a Bösendorfer Imperial Grand, which are two of the most iconic acoustic pianos that have been made. As well as the sound, the technology behind the piano has improved. The improved VRM effects help to capture the resonance of an acoustic instrument, and makes you forget that you are playing a digital model. It features the damper, sostenuto and sustain pedal, and so you are able to play all of your pieces with ease. One of the new features with the CLP 600 series is the in-built Bluetooth interface. Previous models have not had this, and it allows you to connect your IOS/Android device to the piano, and play songs in your music library through the speakers. It is designed to replicate the feel you would get from an acoustic grand piano, and so the keys have been upgraded. All of the white keys are wooden, and the black are synthetic ebony. The feel of this piano is one that you won’t get on many models, and so that is one reason why the CLP 675 is Yamaha’s flagship model.’

What Makes the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova Different

Unlike the CLP 635 and the CLP 625, the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova has a range of unique features which make this an outstanding instrument to play. Here are the added features which you don’t get with the CLP 635 and the CLP 625.

Virtual Resonance Modelling (VRM)

When you play a grand piano, you can’t help but be swept away with the sound which resonates through your entire body. Yamaha have tried to mirror this in the new Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova, by incorporating Virtual Resonance Modelling (VRM). A new piece of technology, the VRM calculates the various states of the strings for each of the 88 notes, taking into account the pressure which is applied to each key and the timings of the pedals – creating a fantastic sound quality which reflects the tone and mood of the performance.

GrandTouch Keyboard

The keyboard on the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova has been made using high-quality wood which has been carefully dried. This not only protects the quality of the piano, but works alongside the unique escapement technology which reproduces the clicking sensation near the bottom of the key travel.

GP Response Damper Pedal

Pedals are an important part of any grand piano and allow the pianist to push the tone, and subsequently the emotion of the composition to entirely different level. The GP Response Damper Pedal resists the pressure of the pianist, and the resistance felt by the pianist depends entirely on how much they push down on the pedal. For instance, the deeper the pedal is pushed down the more resistance the pianist will feel.

Two-Way Speakers

The CLP 675 is also built with two way speakers which have been positioned within the frame of the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova. This delivers powerful sound, which is of the highest quality.

Practice with Rhythms

The CLP 675 comes with a selection of brilliant rhythms to play along with. They have been carefully sampled to make sure they sound as realistic as possible.

Stereophonic Optimizer

This is a new bit of technology which is currently only available to Yamaha. The Stereophonic Optimizer adjusts the spacing of the sound when listening via headphones – which can give you hours of fun!

What Features Make the Sound Quality so Good?

There are a number of different features which Yamaha have incorporated into the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova. These have been explained in more detail below.

Individual Grand Piano Samples for Each of the 88 Notes

The samples for this amazing Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova have been taken from the award winning CFX – Yamaha’s very own concert piano – and Bὂsendorfer, which is renowned across the world for the power of its voice. Both of these grand pianos are revered for their powerful and characterful voice which can switch betweenlots of different emotions.

Each of the 88 different notes have been individually recorded and Yamaha have had a master piano technician to tune each one to make sure that the sound, tone and quality of the sound is the best it can be.

Smooth Tonal Transition

Left: Rapidly lifting your fingers (staccato), Right: Slowly lifting your fingers (legato)

To guarantee a smooth transition between the notes, Yamaha have recorded long samples from the two grand pianos and incorporated their innovative Smooth Release Technology which stabilizes the tone produced when shifting between different notes.

This allows the pianist to jump from a lively staccato passage to a sobering legato passage devoid of any hiccups.

Genuine 256-Note Polyphony

If you’re an experienced pianist then you frequently play notes simultaneously. With the 256-note polyphony you won’t need to worry about notes cutting off.

Acoustic Optimizer

To control the flow of sound and the tone produced by the impressive CLP 675, Yamaha have included Acoustic Optimizer which does just this. So you can rest assured that every time you sit down to play at the Rosewood CLP 675 your ears will be greeted by a finely tuned sound every single time.

What Features Make it so Beautiful to Play?

There are a number of features which have been incorporated to enhance the enjoyment for the pianist when they come to play this beautiful instrument. Some of which, have been listed below.

88 Key Linear Graded Hammer Action

There is nothing that equals the sheer enjoyment of playing a grand piano; however Yamaha have closely mirrored this thanks to the 88 key linear graded hammer action which they built into the design of the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova.

The linear graded hammer action is responsible for recreating the resistance which is typically felt when the pianists presses down on a key on a grand piano. This allows the pianist to develop their technical skill as a pianist.

What ‘Modern’ Features Does the CLP 575 Have?

To keep up with the demands of a modern day pianist, Yamaha have included a wide range of technical features which are designed to make your life that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

Piano Lessons

For those who want to develop their technical skill, there are 303 built-in lessons to give you an interactive learning experience. Brilliant for both adults and children, it is one of the many reasons why the Rosewood CLP 675 is a brilliant piano.

Multi-Track Song Recording

Plus, if you want to record your performances and listen to them afterwards then that is definitely an option with the CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova. You can record up to 16 tracks for simultaneous playback – great if you’re composing a piece and you want to add layers to the performance.

USB Audio Recorder

Where would you be without a USB port? This allows you to update your recording straight onto a computer or a portable audio device – so you can share your latest performance with friends and family with complete ease.

Comprehensive Selection of Keyboard Voices

For those who are more confident in utilizing all of the features of a digital piano, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Rosewood CLP 675 Yamaha Clavinova has 34 different voices which include keyboard, strings and organ.
