Yanagisawa S901 Soprano Saxophone

Yanagisawa standard specification professional Soprano Saxophone in Lacquered Brass with hand engraved bell.

We think:
Like all Yanagisawa saxes, the 901 is a fabulous instrument, both technically impeccable and packed with character. The 901 is Yanagisawa’s “standard” specification professional model, but shares many of the upgraded specifications associated with its “upgraded” specification sibling – the 991.

For this reason, the S901 is a very popular soprano model for sax players. A truly versatile instrument, the 901 is as equally popular with “jazzers” or classical players – as great tuning, response and reliability are key necessities, whatever you are playing!

The 901 is a very popular Professional Soprano choice – and would last a good player a lifetime.

Yanagisawa exclusively produce professional level saxophones from their small Tokyo factory. Combining technological advanced manufacturing techniques with artisan skill, they produce instruments that are both technically superb and possess real character.

The 901 model has a similar technical specification to the Yamaha 6 series and is priced similarly, yet it offers a more exclusive brand, is finished by hand, and thus its proponents would argue a more characterful playing experience.

What’s the difference between the S901 and S991 model?
The Yanagisawa Soprano 901 and 991 models have far fewer differences than their Alto and Tenor cousins. The fundamental difference between the Alto and Tenor 901/991 models is in the body construction – with the 901s having key posts connected directly to the body and the 991 keys connected via a “rib” running the length of the body.

However the S901’s feature a “ribbed construction” identical to the S991 – so tonally, both instruments offer a similar rich, darker tone.

The only differences are the 901 features a one piece (straight) body, with a range to high F#, whereby the 991 features a detachable two neck option format and extended range to high G .

As a consequence of the minor differences between the models, the 901 is by far the most popular model with our customers and therefore the only model we usually stock.
