Reasons Why to Learn & Play the Guitar
I was reading an article recently and found that there are now scientific reasons that have been proven to why people should play the guitar. I thought this was very interesting and could be something of an interest to all you musicians. Here are some reasons it's a great instrument and why you may consider picking one up.

1. Relieves stress

Studies have found that stress can be reduced by playing a musical instrument. Have you ever noticed how guitarists are often quite laid back and chilled out people; especially when performing on stage? Well this can be linked to the fact that they play a musical instrument. They are relaxed and doing something they enjoy.

2. Create your own style

When you play the guitar there are so many different ways of playing, with many different styles and techniques to choose from. This allows you to create your own style; styles include metal, jazz, soft rock and funk. People often mix a few styles together to create a playing style that's unique to them.

3. Connect with people- Make friends

It's a great way to make friends and meet new people. The guitar is a very popular instrument so I'm sure you won't struggle to find some people to make music with. Players may not be fellow guitars; it could be players who play a different musical instrument. Which means forming a band could be on the cards.

4. Confidence Boost

It can be a big sense of accomplishment when you've learnt that new cord or just finished your first gig in front of lots of people. You see the crowd going crazy by cheering and clapping. All those long and tiring practice sessions have paid off and the reaction from the crowd gives you that confidence boost to want to perform again and again. Guitarists often have to learn quite complex arrangements, they can be quite challenging but once it has been learnt correctly you are able to feel a real sense of accomplishment.

5. Develops discipline and patience

Learning to play a musical instrument takes a lot of hard work and determination. It can be frustrating when you can't pick up a certain piece straight away. Many hours will be spent going over and over the same piece of music to get it perfect. You need to be determined and have good self discipline to enable you not to give up when you are struggling and keep trying. Patience with yourself is important because you will make mistakes like any other player. It's important that you keep trying and don't give up. Maybe I've convinced some of you to start learning the guitar or maybe another instrument. There are many benefits to playing any musical instrument; some of these benefits may be similar to the guitar.
