LIFT Music is an innovative, inclusive and accessible music therapy app designed specifically for use in schools and specialist settings. Created to support learners with SEND, LIFT Music transforms simple arm movements into expressive musical experiences.

LIFT is an accessible digital music app designed to enable pupils with cognitive disabilities to participate in musical performance and composition. Through gesture-based interaction, pupils can create and manipulate sound, supporting key aims of the National Curriculum for Music, including performing, composing, listening and responding to music. By removing barriers associated with traditional instruments, LIFT supports inclusive access to creative musical learning within SEND settings.

There is no specialist equipment and no musical knowledge required, just movement, music and meaningful engagement. Users simply lift and move their arms to conduct the music, instantly hearing changes in tempo, rhythm, dynamics and texture. It is intuitive, engaging and empowering, making music accessible to everyone.

Why Schools Choose LIFT Music

Gesture-based interaction allows pupils who may not be able to use traditional instruments to actively perform and compose music. By listening and responding, pupils explore how gestures change musical outcomes. Teachers can link gestures to tempo, dynamics or pitch changes to help explain musical elements.

LIFT supports cause-and-effect learning, non-verbal expression and sensory engagement, priorities aligning with the SEND Code of Practice.

  • Fully inclusive and accessible for learners of all abilities
  • Designed specifically with SEND learners in mind
  • Supports emotional regulation and sensory processing
  • Encourages physical movement and creative expression
  • Promotes turn-taking, shared interaction and communication
  • Simple for staff to implement with minimal training
  • Includes comprehensive, in-depth reporting tools that provide detailed insights into each individual student’s progress.
I really understand the purpose of the app and can see many ways it can be incorporated into music education for all - it is extremely inclusive and would work for any age and any level of need."

The app has been really beneficial for both group and 1:1 sessions. In class, children take turns interacting while others join in or create their own rhythms. The setup is simple, and staff quickly get the hang of it, making it easy to use and develop in the classroom. Children have loved exploring the cause-and-effect of their movements on the music, selecting pace and volume as they go. It’s been wonderful to see each child interact with the music in their own unique way."

LIFT Music is a great way for them to tap into a personal way of expressing themselves.  Students who need to use movement throughout the day, this really tailors to them, it adds value to their way of being.  Students really get into the zone, there’s a sort of exchange between the tech and students. They feed each other and they really let go.  What I like about it is a lot of the behaviours sometimes in schools are criticised, they are welcome in there so they don’t have to present in any way that’s different from what they normally are, they can jump around, they can be expressive, they can use movement - so really exciting."

Amazing, a very good tool that can give a lot of confidence to our students, it’s about creativity, about expressing themselves and making art, which is something we are always looking for in SEN Students.”
