The Montreux Concert Series Tenor Horn is a step-up Eb tenor horn for progressing players: silver-plated throughout, with three stainless steel valves, a yellow brass body and bell and a gold brass leadpipe. It comes with a high-quality silver-plated mouthpiece and a lightweight moulded hard case with backpack straps.

Who is this tenor horn for?

Improving players who have outgrown a student horn — typically brass band members and secondary school students working through the grades — and bands wanting professional-style tone without the professional price. Its design takes inspiration from some of the great professional tenor horns, with a precision-engineered valve block for accurate articulation. Who plays the tenor horn?

The Eb tenor horn is the middle voice of the British brass band — most players come up through band training programmes or school brass lessons. Its comfortable size and mellow tone also make it a common second instrument for cornet and trumpet players.

Is this horn suitable for a beginner?

It is aimed at improving players — the tone, valve precision and silver-plate finish reward developing technique. A first-time player gets better value from the Montreux student model, then steps up to this Concert Series horn as their playing grows.

Why choose a silver-plated brass instrument?

Silver plate is prized for a bright, pure tonal response and a professional look, and it wears well with regular cleaning. Lacquered brass sounds marginally warmer; the choice is partly tonal, partly visual — at this level, silver plate is what most band players want.

What is the difference between a tenor horn and a baritone?

Both live in the middle of the brass band, but the tenor horn is pitched in Eb and is smaller and lighter, while the baritone horn is pitched in Bb with a bigger, rounder sound. Students usually meet the tenor horn first because it is easier to hold and blow.
