Junior Beginner Tabla Set

The Tabla is a prominent percussion instrument in Northern India, now also widely used in western music. It is a set consisting of two drums: a metal bass drum with a broader head, played with the left hand and known as the Bahya or Bayan, and a taller treble drum, played with the right hand and known as the Dahya or Dayan, or simply as the tabla.

This junior set is designed for younger beginners starting to learn the instrument, and includes a wooden treble drum and an aluminium bass drum, complete with traditional rings for the tabla to rest on and a padded carry case for protection.

Craftsmanship

The treble drum is made from a variety of wood types, sourced from Sheesham, Sirish, Rosewood and Mango wood. The drum heads themselves are made from the highest quality goat hide, with the highest quality shyah (the black tuning circle) used on both the bass and treble sides.

Tuning and Finish

The treble drum is tuned by hammering down on the wooden tuning pegs to create tension, and both drums are precisely tuned in scale.

As this is a handmade instrument, the colour of the wood, metal, drum heads and strapping may vary slightly from pictures.
